Tips On Choosing The Correct Stuart Turner Pump
( 1 ) Do you need an negative head water pump or a positive head ?
A negative head water pumps are mainly designed for Apartments or in a house where it has a shower in an attic conversion. This is because the shower head is higher than cold and hot water tank.
Positive head stuart turner water pumps are normally used in houses because the cold water is located in the attic and the cold water tank is more than 2.6 meters higher than the water pump.
( 2 ) New or Reconditioned Stuart Turner / Monsoon pumps what is the difference.
A new stuart turner pump comes with a manufacturers warranty once it has been installed correctly and your system meets the manufacturers guidelines.
A reconditioned water pump normally comes with a one year warranty depending on where you buy it.
( 3 ) What should a reconditioned water pump look like?
A reconditioned water pump should look exactly the same as a new one because everything is new on the pump, so don’t accept anything less, there are examples on our website showing what a reconditioned pump should look like.
( 4 ) Warranty cover.
Always make sure there is a warranty on the water pump, there is a couple of places out there that do very good reconditioned water pumps normally they come with one year warranty so make sure it has it on the invoice and the most important thing to never buy from the back of a car always make sure the place where you buy the pump has a shop of some sort where you can bring it back if necessary.
( 5 ) Always get a receipt with your water pump.
( 6 ) Do you need to buy a water pump ?
Just because the plumber says you need a new water pump does not necessarily mean you need to buy a new pump.
Remember most plumbers don’t know how to fix a water pump but they do know how to install one hence the reason why you need a new pump.
Always get a second opinion most places that fixes water pumps normally work on a no fix no fee basis.
( 7 ) What is the best make of water pump out there ?
If you do your research you will see the name Stuart Turner and Monsoon which is the same brand will always come up and that because in our opinion they are one of the best water pumps sold today depending on the model of course, you buy a cheap plastic water pump that will do one item and only last a couple of years if you are lucky.
Grundfos also do very good water pumps some models are excellent depending on the model again there are some plastic models that are just ok.
( 8 ) How long should a new stuart turner pump or reconditioned pump last for ?
Either New or Reconditioned pumps can last as little as one year or ten years this depends on the system.
Example one day I had a lady ring me and ask me why did she have 3 new water pumps put in 5 years and the first pump lasted for 10 years why ?
I told her that’s a very easy question to answer ” it’s the system” there are many things in the system that breaks water pumps but the main
2 factures that breaks water pump the first is your hot water being too hot over 65 degrees will break your pump the second thing is a small leak in the system example a toilet ballcock is or a tap.
It turned out to be that the water in her hot water was too hot it was over 75 degrees and every pump she got installed leaked and I know this became I installed her last pump 10 years ago.
( 9 ) When buying a new pump make sure it’s a water pump designed for the Irish market
There are websites out there selling water pumps cheaper than the plumbing merchants BE AWARE these site are English websites for example
Screwfix.ie and Taps4less.ie these are English websites and the water pumps they sell you are not suitable for the Irish market and it will not be covered under its warranty also it will have the wrong size flexi hoses not Irish size hoses,
One tip always make sure when buying a new Stuart Turner water pump it has ROI on the box this should keep warranty valid if it does not have the ROI on it there will be no warranty.
( 10 ) Installation Guidelines
Always check the installation instructions fully to make sure it meet the manufacturers guidelines.
